As you know by now, President Trump survived an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday.

He released the following statement shortly after the failed assassination attempt:

I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured.

It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead.

I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear.

I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin.

Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

You can see in the video (which I will not link here), President Trump grabbed his ear and then dropped to the ground before being covered by Secret Service.

There was some movement and discussion before he rose at the lectern and pumped his fist into the air — a move that electrified the crowd and showed America that Trump was okay.

The Arlington GOP prays for President Trump and for the victims of this heinous act. No on should be under threat of violence or death for supporting the political candidate or cause of their choice in the United States.

Corey Comperatore was a retired fire chief for Buffalo Township, a husband, and a father. According to reports, he died shielding his wife and daughter from the gunfire. Two other attendees were injured at the rally.

The Trump Campaign established a GoFundMe for the victims. At the time of the writing of this email, the GoFundMe effort had raised in excess of $3.6 million.

The Republican National Convention will gavel in shortly before noon, earlier than previously scheduled and likely under heightened security. More than 100 groups have registered to protest in Milwaukee this week.

As someone who attended both the 2012 and 2016 Republican National Conventions as an at-large delegate from Virginia, I can tell you protests are a huge part of the activity outside the security perimeter. Delegates and guests will be shuttled to the edge of the perimeter and permitted into the secured portion around the Fiserv Forum.

It will be very important for delegates and guests to be aware of their surroundings as they move into the secure perimeter. They must hold on to valuables and ensure their delegate/guest credentials stay in their possession the entire time. There will be a range of bad actors in the crowd — from casual Antifa types to very skilled professional agitators.

As you read this email, delegates and guests from Virginia are gathered at our Convention hotel to pick up credentials for the day and to fellowship with one another. State delegations will gather each morning to pick up credentials and make plans for the day.

Shuttles will take Virginia delegates and guests to the Fiserv Forum at 10:30am Central this morning, and we will remain on site as the Convention gavels in and conducts business — until 10:00pm with a short break between 4:45pm and 5:50pm.

For those of you watching from home, you should be able to enjoy the entire Convention on C-SPAN, either on television or online by clickinghere.

The themes for each night of the Convention include:

You can see a full list of scheduled speakers for the 2024 Republican National Convention here.

While the announcement for Donald Trump’s Vice Presidential pick is not scheduled until Wednesday, the announcement will come on Trump’s timeline — and you may know something later today.

My aggressive schedule has made it nearly impossible for me to write my thoughts about the RNC Summer Meeting and the pre-Convention committee meetings, but I suspect I will go live from the Republican National Convention sometime later today or tonight on Facebook or Twitter/X.

I will unlock the privacy for Convention-specific posts, so you can watch on Facebookhere.

Updates on Twitter/X can be foundhere.
