NEWSLETTER: An update from the RPV Advance

The Arlington GOP makes select newsletter updates available on our site to inform the broader public of our activities. If you would like to receive our regular, weekly newsletter, you may subscribe here: http://eepurl.com/izWNfI

Hundreds of Republicans from across Virginia are gathered in Charlottesville for the annual Republican Party of Virginia (RPV) Advance.

I just came back to the room after a surprise conversation with RNC Chairman Michael Whatley and Members of the Republican National Committee from Virginia, where they fielded questions from grassroots Republicans like you.

RNC Chairman Whatley praised the work of Republican National Committeeman Morton Blackwell, Republican National Committeewoman Patti Lyman, and RPV Chairman Rich Anderson, who serve as the three representatives to the RNC from Virginia.

Chairman Whatley will keynote tonight’s Chairman’s Dinner on-site at the Advance.

Since I arrived at the RPV Advance yesterday afternoon, I have received dozens of compliments about what you accomplished this election cycle.

Arlington Republicans are making progress in Northern Virginia — and we’re making a positive impression with Republicans across the Commonwealth.

In addition to breakout sessions, the Chairman’s Dinner, and hospitality suites tonight, I am especially interested in the panel discussion tomorrow morning about winning the House of Delegates in 2025.

I’ll be there advocating for resources for House of Delegates candidates across Arlington and Northern Virginia.

Look for a more comprehensive update from the RPV Advance early next week.

Thank you.

Onward,

Matthew Hurtt, Chairman
Arlington GOP

Arlington Republican War with Nextdoor

Arlington Republicans face tremendous ideological headwinds in our community. One of the primary organizational tools for our friends and neighbors is Nextdoor, which claims to be “the essential neighborhood app where community and camaraderie come together.”

Unfortunately, the Nextdoor model has failed community and civic discourse because its “community moderation” model puts committed leftists in charge of moderating content on the platform.

One prohibition Nextdoor claims to enforce on its platform is discussion of national politics and religion; however, this prohibition is disproportionately enforced against Republicans in Arlington.

On numerous occasions, my posts about local issues have been flagged and removed as “national politics,” while leftist neighbors are permitted to post critical comments about national Republican figures.

Arlington Republicans won our first battle with Nextdoor yesterday when a post about Donald Trump was reported and removed. The author of the post, however, was one of Nextdoor’s local leftist censors

I am in ongoing conversations with Nextdoor’s national support team to hold Arlington’s leftist “community moderators” accountable. But I can’t do it without your help.

You may ask, “Why do you care about Nextdoor or our ability to post on the platform? Shouldn’t they be able to moderate it any way they want?”

Yes, Nextdoor *should* be able to moderate its platform any way they want; however, they claim to do so fairly — but they clearly do not. And given that a significant number of Arlington neighbors use Nextdoor to “educate” our community on important issues, it’s time to force their hand.

The good news is, it only takes a few neighbors to raise enough of a ruckus to make a difference. Join the Arlington Republicans group on Nextdoor to take action on the platform, and be on the lookout for (and report) leftist violations of their stated policies.

The Second Inauguration of Donald J. Trump

The Second Inauguration of Donald J. Trump will take place on Monday, January 20, 2025. The Arlington GOP does not have tickets to the swearing-in ceremony, the inaugural address, or the pass in review, nor do we currently have plans to sponsor an inaugural celebration.

However, this site provides information about securing tickets to the inaugural festivities and other processes. I caution you against paying to attend the official inauguration. Tickets will be available from your Members of Congress in the weeks leading up to the inauguration at no cost to you.

I corresponded with a member of Congressman Don Beyer’s staff recently, who replied:

We’ve had large number of requests already, of course, and will be running a lottery for constituents who have requested tickets from our allotment once we know what that will be. Anyone interested in being added to the lottery can contact my colleague Zeena Saliba… with their names, contact info and the number of tickets they are requesting. For those whose bids in the lottery are successful, we will be in further touch once we have been informed by the inaugural committee of any further information that might be needed.

If you are a constituent of Congressman Don Beyer — meaning you reside in Virginia’s 8th District — you may email Zeena Saliba here: Zeena.Saliba@mail.house.gov

When you email Ms. Saliba, please provide ALL the information requested in the above correspondence.

If you are NOT a constituent living in Virginia’s 8th District, you must go through the office of the Member of Congress who represents you. You may also reach out to either U.S. Senator. I will attempt to find the specific points of contact in both Senators Kaine and Warner’s offices.

Other inaugural festivities — including inaugural balls and other celebratory events — may require you to purchase tickets.

If you have questions about whether or not you should pay for a certain event, please email me directly. I will be happy to provide further insight into celebratory opportunities.
